When I first started to pursue healing...
I had no instructor, trusted guru, or classes to guide me. The Universe is funny that way.
Sometimes our guidance is a matter of gut feelings, a serendipitous conversation, or a book
'falling' off a shelf in a bookstore. Hard cover or soft, they leap when necessary. For me, after
doing a lot of searching and looking at different healing approaches, I happened upon a little
lecture at a bookstore that introduced me to Reiki. I don't remember the woman's name who
talked to us about Reiki, but I was influenced enough to buy Diane Stein's book, Essential
Reiki, which tantalized me enough to want to learn more and more. Since then, I have had
teachers discourage reading about Reiki, not because they feel threatened by other's opinions,
but because Reiki, to be truly learned, needs to be experienced, not intellectualized. I have to
admit, my own personal approach swings between strictly doing, doing, doing, and then reading
everything I can get my hands on. I continue to enjoy reading about Reiki so I may be better
informed of differing schools of thought or lineage backgrounds. My need to know, cognitively,
however does not outweigh my need to experience. A day never goes by without me practicing
some form of Reiki. Since self-healing is a priority, as it should be with everyone, I receive
Reiki from my self-healing practice daily. Nearly as often, I continue to pursue a better
intellectual understanding of this miraculous practice. The books below are a sample of some
of the more influential books that have affected this path in my life.
Reading List- a supplement, not a substitute for experience!!!
Listed here is a number of fantastic resources filled with information that can assist the Reiki
practitioner, healers of different lineages, or the searching spiritualist. The Reiki Sourcebook
has many ideas for how to use your Reiki, especially if you are at least level II. William Lee
Rand's guidebook is extremely practical and helpful, with a far more researched history of Usui
Sensai than found in many other sources. Petter's sensitive writing of Reiki Fire will intrigue
even those unfamiliar with the amazing energy we call Reiki. Hands of Light is a thorough guide
to working with energy, developing an ability to see/sense auras and illness or blockages
trapped within the subtle energy bodies of clients. Echo Bodine uses energy to heal,
emphasizing we all have this ability.

Other influential works/authors that have guided my path

One may note the presence of the works of some authors considered controversial, even unethical. I include their works because of the positive influence their books have provided me. Even flawed people may provide important messages from which we may learn. In a state free of judgement and criticism, I encourage you to read and explore such a variety of philosophies as sampled here. Share an email with me about your favorite books.
